Inbound marketing for beginners
Do you think that you’re too old, too busy, or too boring for inbound marketing on Twitter, Facebook, and LinkedIn? Think that optimising your website for search results isn’t for you?
If you’re a day over 35, you may remember that this is exactly what hard-headed business types used to say about the internet and email addresses.
Who would have thought, even 10 years ago, that entire service industries would be built around things we hadn’t even heard of at the time. Today, its easy to find companies that specialised in email marketing, search engine optimisation, paid search, social media marketing and even conversion rate optimisation.
In spite of the fact that Hubspot sends me about 3-4 emails a day about inbound marketing, I still can’t resist reading their stuff. For me anyway, that’s usually the sign of great content, so these guys certainly practice what they preach.
Every once in a while, I read a Hubspot article that does a great job at summarising where inbound marketing is going (and in my opinion: where all marketing is going). This one is called “Turning your marketing inside out” and it’s worth a read – especially for those who are still wondering: should I blog? should I tweet? should I facebook?
When I first got involved in designing websites for healthcare businesses, I used to hear: should I have a website?. 10 years later, I (thankfully) never hear that question.
My favourite quote from the article:
You might think you’re too old for this stuff. You might think you don’t have time for tweeting, posting, blogging and optimizing your search engine results. You might as well start planning your liquidation sale. There is no denying this seismic shift in the way marketing is done.
